David James

David James

PhotoDavid H. James August 14, 1942 - July 17, 2010 David was born in Grand Forks, ND, the eldest of three children of the late Helen and Harold James. After earning his MBA, David moved to the Bay Area in 1967 where he established his professional career in financial services. He later completed a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and achieved his longtime goal of becoming a licensed therapist. A curious and perpetual learner, David was talented and creative. He enjoyed a wide range of cultural pursuits from the performing arts to international travel. He left few ports unexplored. His generosity, optimism, and love for life, family and friends were infectious. David's wisdom and keen--sometimes wicked--sense of humor, even in the midst of adversity, were a delight and inspiration to those who knew him. As a mentor and coach, he transformed and improved lives, both professionally and personally. His ongoing support of charities helped to further those efforts--gifts that live on. David is survived by his beloved daughters Stephaney and Alexis; their husbands Matt and Ian; his former wife, Connie; and his devoted partner Paul. Together, they formed a loving and caring team that supported David as he coped with the brain tumor that claimed him. He is also survived by his grandchildren Dylan, Cooper, Griffin and Mason, who gave him joy and were the lights of his life--and by many relatives and friends. Friends and family are invited to a memorial celebration of David's life on July 30th at 5:00 p.m. at The Olympic Club, 524 Post Street, San Francisco, 415-345-5100. (Please note: The Olympic Club does not permit denim or athletic attire). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the charity of your choice.
