Richard "Dick" Hadland

Richard "Dick" Hadland, 48,  Bemidji, formerly of Grand Forks, died in a traffic accident Monday, November 11, 1991 in Beltrami County, Minnesota. 

Richard Hadlin was born December 18, 1942 in Grand Forks, the son of Evelyn and Ade Hadland.  He attended school in Grand Forks and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961, serving with the First Infantry Division.  After his discharge in 1964, he was a truck driver with Buckingham and Midwest Motor Express.  He most recently was employed with Murphy Sheet Metal and lived near Bemidji.

He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Hadland, Bemidji; brother, Dr. Dale G. Hadland, Brainerd, Minn; sisters, Debbie (Scott) Hallgren, Emerado, N.D. and Cindy (Paul) Larsen, East Grand Forks; and nine nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 14, 1991 in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.  Members of East Grand Forks American Legion Post conducted military honors.

FORMER GF MAN DIES IN BEMIDJI CRASH

A former Grand Forks man was killed and a Hines, Minn. man was injured in a two-car collision Monday afternoon near Bemidji.

Richard Dean Hadland, 48, was killed when his westbound 1978 Dodge collided with an eastbound 1990 Mazda driven by Swen Backman, 71, on Beltrami County Road 22 about 10 miles north of Bemidj according to Beltrami County Sheriff Dwight Stewart.

Both were taken to North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, where Hadland was pronounced dead, Stewart said.  A spokesperson at the hospital said Backman was treated in the emergency room and released.

Hadland was born in Grand Forks, where he lived until 1990, when he moved to Bemidji.
