Roger Glenn Berge, registered professional engineer, passed away peacefully at his home in Black Forest on Sunday evening, October 21, 2007. He was born May 25, 1942 in Grand Forks, ND to Glenn and Sally (Flowers) Berge. He attended schools in Grand Forks and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of North Dakota in 1965. He began his professional career at the U.S. Naval Shipyards in Seattle as a civilian engineer for the Navy. He subsequently spent time in Vietnam as a team member in charge of designing, surveying and supervising the construction of airstrip runways there for U.S. aircraft. He was married on July 15, 1967 to Sara (Fugelso), whom he had known while in college. Within a few months Roger was offered a job with the Colorado Highway Department and they moved to Colorado Springs. In 1969 he joined the engineering firm of H.J. Kraettli and Sons where he met his future business partner. In time this well-known local firm was transitioned to Berge-Brewer and Associates: Civil Engineering and Land Surveying. Their partnership provided consulting engineering services and land surveying to the Colorado Springs area for more than 25 years. Mr. Berge was a member of the El Paso County Planning Commission from 1981-1987. He was active in politics, served as his Precinct Caucus Chairman and attended local and state Republican Conventions many times. He served several terms on the Park Forest Water District Board. He was a past president of the Colorado Springs Kennel Club. He belonged to the Broadmoor Curling Club where his team represented Colorado at the U.S. Men's Curling Championships in 1972, 1973, and 1974. He is survived by his wife, Sara; sons, Tait Berge, Colorado Springs; Torin Berge (Leslie), Minot, ND; Travis Berge, Davis, CA; grandsons Carter and Quinn Berge, Minot, nephew, Scott Berge, Grand Forks and several cousins. Visitation, Thursday, October 25, 2007, 5-7pm at Swan Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade. Memorial Services, 2 pm, Friday, October 26, 2007, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 4210 Austin Bluffs Parkway.
